Colin’s Commotion: The Sunshine State’s Rain Storm

When Tropical Storm Colin sent heavy rain across the Tampa Bay area, it caused delays in traffic, graduations, airline flights and more. Seemingly, no stone was left unturned including manholes and untreated sewage. Rain overwhelmed aging pipelines, some of which date back to the 1920’s, hence overflows. The city of St. Petersburg is now in the process of approval for investments to the city’s wastewater system. Upgrades are needed for capacity improvements and restructuring of an aged sewer system. Comparably,

St. Petersburg Sewers Inundated from Local Storm

For residents in the St. Petersburg and surrounding cities, it’s been a rainy few weeks. Recently, a sewer overflow occurred due to stormy weather. The storm filled leaky pipes with water, doubling the normal amount of flow into the city’s sewer plants. This created a need for the city to pump at least two million gallons into Tampa Bay. A mixture of partially treated sewage, rainwater, groundwater and storm water will be pumped by a pipe about a quarter-of-a-mile into

Temporary lane closings will be reopened at the end of

Florida receives nearly half of its rainfall during the months of June, July and August and receives an average of 54 inches of rainfall per year.  However, there are certain months where there is little to no rainfall at all.  Much of the rainwater is lost as storm water runoff, so

Bay Area Gears up for Possible Flooding

Tampa has had quite a rainy summer. This is the season, actually. The main concern now, is the chance that another flood could occur as the Bay Area prepares for Tropical Storm Erika. It has, just this week, been a potential, if not likely, threat to cause more damages to roads and homes. Earlier this month, the City had repairs to approximately 155 sewer system cave-ins, 30 destroyed sections of road, and 875 pothole repairs. This had emergency repair crews
