Sewer pipe repairs coming to St. Pete Beach

Sewer pipe repairs coming to St. Pete Beach

Residents and business owners in St. Pete Beach will soon be faced with some much-needed upgrades. But not all are pleased since the construction will be pretty much brought to their doorsteps and last about 18 months.

Two big projects and upgrades coming to the St. Pete Beach community are placing existing electrical utilities underground and upgrading the city’s aging sewer systems. The first part of the project will begin in January.

St. Pete Beach’s sewer system is so old and overloaded that a current moratorium is in place that bans the building of new hotels along Gulf Blvd. The moratorium ban has been in effect since 2016 so these new upgrades and construction will allow the city to start developing hotels again.

The $24 million project will last approximately 18 months and will impact commutes along Gulf Blvd. The sewer project will help alleviate major sewer spills.
