Residents in and around Tampa! We have had quite a few days of record setting rain and flooding in several of our neighborhoods. The substantial flooding was mostly contained to streets and not homes. However, the inclement weather can still bring an array of issues for our sewer system. The City of Pinellas County, in the area of Seminole Blvd. and 94th Ave, is experiencing road closures due to a sewer back up. Crews at the site were able to pump the sewer line before a likely overflow occurred. In a situation such as this, the City advises Residents to stay out of standing flood water. Standing water will contain bacteria related to the wastewater overflows along with insects and other animals.
There have also been shelters put in place for those affected more significantly by the storm. A list of recommended items to bring with you if you are evacuated include: Identification, medications, spare clothing, towels and toiletries. The City has also issued a reminder: Non-functioning traffic signals should be treated as 4-way stops. Road detour signs should be followed, and any downed or hanging power lines should be avoided, as they may be live.
